Students are taught to recognize and apply common patterns of play. Later in life, many players find that making progress is hard because they lack these fundamentals, so addressing these early is very important. Classes use a combination of lectures, game reviews, problem book exercises, supervised play, and tournaments. Within each class, students are grouped according to their experience, and receive instruction suited to their individual strengths and weaknesses. In addition to teaching the game of go, classes also aim to develop good study habits and proper behavior which are generally useful in life.
Beginners are welcome at all locations, but they will not remain beginners for long! Beginners receive special coaching to get ready to play go with the other students and learn faster.
In addition to the time spent in weekly classes, students should spend time doing homework between classes to make progress faster. In addition to the problem books assigned in class, the following homework resources are recommended.
If you have questions about these classes, or about online lessons, please contact Feng Yun for advice. Also, please read our class policies.
